1. Listen before you speak
Try to understand the habits of each group or discussion area, the "thread" of the topics in progress, before intervening. It takes several days, even weeks, to understand: it is better to wait a little longer than to enter the wrong way.

2. Don't use over-quoting
Limit the quotation of the message you reply to to the bare minimum. There are people who report a long message in full to add just a line that says "I agree" or "I disagree". This is bad netiquette.

3. Be brief
People who habitually frequent the net receive a large amount of messages, lists, newsgroups, etc., and do not like an excessive footprint. It is also tiring to read very long texts on the screen. In general, a text that occupies more than two screens on the monitor is to be considered "too long". Often a lot can be said in a few lines.

4. Don't make long quotes
When reading a text is recommended, it is better not to quote it in full, but to indicate where it can be found or to propose "whoever wants to tell me and I will send it as a personal message" (in this case it will be acceptable, indeed welcome, a message "multiple" sent to people who ask for it).

5. Apologize (but not too much)
If you make a mistake, it is better not to insist, but simply to apologize, especially if it is a "cumbersome" mistake (such as a message that is too long, or entered in the wrong place). It's not worth apologizing for a small oversight, such as a spelling mistake, though. Errors of this kind are almost always accepted without problems. It is also advisable to avoid being "pedantic", to correct others for secondary details.

6. Don't "fight"
Better to avoid flames and better never to bring a private debate to a public area, especially if it is controversial. If you really consider a "fight" necessary, it is better to keep it in an exchange of personal messages.

7. Understand before you react
It may happen that we read something that bothers us: but before reacting it is better to think about it. Are we sure it's an attack? Is this a real controversy or is it a joke? Is this intentional or is it a trivial mistake? Did we understand well the habits, customs, the language of the "place"? Should we respond immediately or wait a little to see if the writer of the document intervenes? Could the best answer be silence, or a private message? Many flames are triggered by a misunderstanding; and once the "flame" of controversy is lit, it becomes difficult to put it out. Better think about it first.
The community is against spam practiced in any form and by any means.

8. Don't spam
Before spreading the same text in different "sites" or sending it to different people, better think twice. Are we really sure that everyone is interested? One of the least popular things on the net is having your mailbox cluttered with "unsolicited" messages.
It is forbidden to advertise your sites in the forum (even through your signature) in public, private messages and through your profile. Violators will be sanctioned first with the censorship of the material and a first warning. absolutely does not tolerate any form of SPAM.

9. Don't get bored
Sometimes a joke or a "futile" topic can be enjoyable, especially if it's said in a funny way. But there is no need to exaggerate, especially in "public places", with the story of personal facts or with what seems funny to us but to others maybe not. If something is of interest only to us or to two or three friends, it is better to exchange it in private messages than to bore everyone else. Unfortunately, it often happens that two or three people who "delight" each other with uninteresting topics, empty a space for dialogue, because the others, bored, sooner or later leave.

10. Don't be "graphomaniac"
Don't repeat yourself, don't dwell on it, don't write too often. It is a widespread temptation to repeat the same concept, or to send "volleys" of messages. Before "flooding" a mailbox or discussion area, it is always better to ask yourself: "but will others really find what I say interesting"?

11. Pay attention to the "tone"
Many misunderstandings in online communication derive from the lack of the "physical" presence, expressions and tone of voice with which we give meaning and tone to our words; and also the possibility of correcting ourselves immediately if another person does not understand us. This is why "smilies" were invented and for this, as we have seen, it is always better to write offline. It is useful to reread what you have written, before sending it, and ask yourself: do you understand well in what tone I am expressing myself, if I am serious or joking, if I am in controversy or am I simply reasoning? Who does not know me, will understand my intentions?

12. Don't use "all caps"
Writing a word, or (worse) a sentence IN CAPITAL LETTERS is considered the equivalent of "screaming": therefore a rudeness. If you want to highlight a word, it is best to have it preceded and followed by an underscore _ or quotation marks "such as _evidence_ or" evidence ". The use of" all caps "is to be avoided in titles as well as in texts.

13. Choose the title well
Especially in newsgroups or lists that are read by many people, the choice of titles is important: the title should reflect the content of the message as clearly as possible. Often in the large amount of correspondence searches are made "by title" (which can be done "manually", ie by scrolling through all the titles, or "automatically", ie using a "search key"). A bad habit, unfortunately very widespread, is to absentmindedly follow the automatic mechanism offered by the OLR, to use the title of the message to be answered, preceded by "Re:". If this usually works for the first answer, when the debate gets longer it gradually loses sense: it is easy that the fourth or fifth message entitled "Re: cabbages" is talking about a snack.

14. Don't "ask for help" unnecessarily
Requests for advice and technical help are usually welcomed with sympathy. But it is best to avoid asking unnecessary questions, such as asking for explanations that are easy to find in a manual (whether it is a "printed" manual or the help contained in almost any program) or in a "site" that collects that type of information. Often in a technical discussion area it may happen that an answer has already been given to the question we would like to ask: better to read backwards, or use one of the search "keys" that many programs allow, to find out if the answer is there. is already. This saves time for us - and especially for others. It is also important to understand "where" to ask a question. Instead of asking in the "first space that happens" it is better to check where there are areas dedicated to the topic that interests us (and where, probably, we will find the answer ready and ready).

15. Privacy protection
It is not correct to quote private messages "in public" without the consent of the person who wrote them. There is obviously a difference between a legitimate summons and a breach of confidentiality, which is not difficult to assess on the basis of normal "common sense" and the usual rules of courtesy.
No user and for no reason are authorized to disclose the confidential personal data of third parties. Anyone who violates this rule will be liable to disciplinary measures up to the exclusion from the forum for an indefinite period. Furthermore, the administrators, in compliance with Legislative Decree No. 196 of 30 June 2003 for the protection of privacy, reserve the right to report the violating user to the competent authorities.

16. Don't be impatient
We cannot expect to always receive an immediate response. Only in theory do messages on the net travel "at the speed of light". The path is not easy, it is often tortuous. A message can arrive in minutes or several hours. Sometimes a "traffic jam" in the network node can cause a delay of days. Not everyone reads their mailbox frequently. Not everyone has laptops or "offsite" connection systems. Everyone has their own commitments, they don't always have time to answer us. Also, if the recipient of our message has a lot of correspondence or is a subscriber to many newsgroups or lists, his "mailbox" can be very crowded.

17. Banning
If a user is banned from the forum, he cannot re-register with another nickname; on this forum nicknames are not banned but people, for obvious reasons. If a banned user re-subscribes to the community without the administrator's consent, and is discovered, he will be banned again. In case of reiteration of this behavior, the IP registered on our servers will be reported to the competent authority and the provider used.

18. Answers "on behalf of the staff"
Any quotation, opinion or content of the forum may in no case be used by third parties in the name of the entire forum, nor in the name of the staff.

19. It is absolutely forbidden to post messages, links and any other material with porno and / or pedophile content, as well as pirated and in any case illegal material. Violators will be excluded from the forum indefinitely and immediately reported to the competent authorities.

20. The messages in this forum express the views and opinions of the authors of the messages themselves and, consequently, the staff is not responsible for them.

21. The Staff reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to delete or block a message or topic if it deems it appropriate.

The administrators and moderators of this forum will try to remove all objectionable material as quickly as possible; however, it is impossible to verify each message.

The user also declares to be aware that the sending of obscene, defamatory, sexual or illegal messages according to the laws in force, entail immediate expulsion and reporting to the competent authorities if criminal behavior is identified.

The registration to a forum does not imply the automatic registration to all the others, but it is totally independent.
